The podcast I wanted to create from the beginning

And one that helps you not feel alone in your mental health struggles.

In partnership with

This is the podcast I wanted to start years ago.
It’s finally here.
And honestly… it’s a bit mental.

How mental are you?

I don’t mean crazy mental, insane mental. Maybe just a bit…weird mental. After all you have to be a bit mental to be a musician, and even weirder to pursue a career in music.

Well, how mental do you have to be to start a podcast in 2026?

I guess I was born to be a mental musician!

Now, I can already hear the comments — not necessarily from you — but from the entrepreneurs, LinkedIn gurus, and social media moguls saying:

“Never start a podcast from scratch. You’ll never make it. There are too many already.”

I mean they do have a point in terms of how many podcasts there are.

But the one podcast I struggled to find was one where artists and musicians sat down for an hour or two, and just spilled their guts about their mental health struggles.

From depression to anxiety. From ADHD to suicide.

Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of podcasts out there that talk about mental health. But most of them are from so-called experts who are more academic than anything, and may not have lived through depression themselves.

I don’t want to be that guy who says, “Well, you didn’t go through it, so what would you know?”

But… it is hard to relate to someone who hasn’t been in your shoes.

And even when I find the odd podcast where a successful musician opens up, it’s usually a one-off episode on a music podcast that spends the rest of the time gushing over how they discovered the most incredible double-diminished-double-shot-mocha-cappucino-flat scale to solo over a four-chord pop song.

You know what I mean.

So I went on the whole “if I can’t find it, I might as well create it myself” journey.

I set off on a spiritual adventure. Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Abandoned my friends and family and deleted all traces of my existence to avoid a $1,500 tax debt.

…just kidding. If only aye?

What I actually did was ask myself a simple question:

Why do I feel such a strong need to do this podcast?

Well over the years, in my darkest moments where I’ve stood in front of my medicine cabinet, wondering how many pills it would take, or driven on the highway at 80km/hr with the temptation to swerve and forget everything I learnt in driving school…all I wanted was to tell someone how I felt.

I wanted someone there so I could cry and not feel so alone.
Someone to catch me just as I was about to give up.

I know from talking to personal friends of mine who struggle with mental illness, musicians and non musicians, they don’t want advice. They don’t want fixing.

They just want someone to know how they feel.
Someone to listen.
Someone to be there.

So that’s what I want my podcast to be.

It’s nothing overly original. It’s nothing wildly original.
But what will make it different is that I’ll cut the bullshit and give the person behind a music a chance to open up.

I want to give my guests and myself the chance to just share the experiences we’ve had, the darkest moments, and the times we felt hopeless, unhinged, without any judgment.

Of course we’ll also share lessons we’ve learnt, the best bits of advice we’ve been given, and even some shit talk and make fun of outdated music traditions. All in good taste of course!

The first two episodes are up, so I’ll leave the links below so you can listen on your daily commute, your runs, or even while soaking in a Sunday bath with epsom salts, candles, and that warm yellow lighting.

Very romantic.

Just to finish off, can I ask you for a small favour?

I hope you said yes because I’m going to ask you anyways. Ah the beauty of para-social platforms like this.

So if you found this podcast helpful for you, then I'd love if you shared this with a friend or family member, especially someone you know who is struggling. They don’t necessarily have to be a musician, as I want this podcast to be part of mental health awareness as a whole.

And I want to say thank you from the bottom of heart to you. I was only able to find the belief and inspiration to do this podcast because of your support. There’s no way of knowing how successful this will be, but I know with your help, I’m going to give it a good ole crack as we say in Australia.

I hope to enjoy what I have to offer.

In the meantime, please take care of yourself.

-Brian.
